Since I started the 3N1 program at the YMCA, I've been doing pretty good about staying active. However, I got sick over my holiday vacation and now it seems everything has gone to crap.
I missed nearly a week of "activity" and feel as though I am starting over. Tonight will be my second night back since being sick and let me tell you, I have not been a good girl. I ate lots of sweets over the holidays and am kind of afraid to weigh myself. I'm trying to keep in mind that it's ridiculous to expect results after three weeks.
In addition to simply wanting to look and feel better, I have my overall health in mind and am hoping to create some strong habits to prevent problems later in life. It's more than just vanity - I want to live many years as Big Spoon's wife and hopefully our children's mother. My Dad was diagnosed with type II diabetes in October 2007. We also have a history of heart disease in the family, so it's important for me to start now in taking better care of myself.
If I haven't said previously, my health and fitness goals for 2010 are:
1) lose 20 lbs the healthy way by getting lots of exercise and eating good things.
2) severely limit my processed sugar intake
3) make the above habits for the remainder of my life
What are your health and fitness goals for 2010?

Music Monday
The week that Big Spoon and I began dating, I purchased Snow Patrol's new album One Hundred Million Suns (If you haven't checked it out yet, do!) It's incredible and quite possibly my favorite SP album. I gave Big Spoon a copy on Election Day and we listened to it a lot in the beginning of our relationship. There is one song in particular that makes me think of him instantly and that is "Crack the Shutters." We don't really have a song, but if we did, it might be this one.

Hermitage Bakery
Big Spoon and I had a cake tasting at Hermitage Bakery today during which we reserved our date and discussed our wedding cake.
I drive by the bakery every morning on my way to work and it was a matter of calling and asking for a price late last year. After we decided to go this route, I realized that part of my problem with the exorbitant prices some vendors charge for wedding cakes is due to the fact that I just want a plain cake. No fondant (um, ew!), no fancy-smancy decorations - plain ivory cake.
The "look" for our wedding cake is based on this picture. It will be a three-tier, ivory cream cheese frosted cake with a cream/gold ribbon. The top and bottom tiers will be traditional white wedding cake, the middle tier will be chocolate.
They are very easy to work with and have reasonable delivery rates, although we have opted to pick ours up the day of rehearsal because we have run of the reception hall and kitchen. That saved us $50! Also, we lucked out by scheduling our consultation today because, although they have not changed their prices in 14 years, they are in fact about to change their prices.
Needless to say, it's exciting to have another check on the planning list and enjoy the delicious cake samples we brought back with us.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I'm back from my blogger break and wedding planning hiatus. I am so excited about 2010 - the beginning of a new decade and the year I will start my married life with Big Spoon! 2009 went by so quickly and I have a great deal to be thankful for. I'll work backwards from today ...
New Year's Eve 2009:
We invited our closest friends over and had a ton of fun ringing in the new year. Also, it appears that 2010 is the year of weddings: three of our close friend couples are engaged and planning summer/late summer weddings. Oh my! We are so excited for all of them.
Christmas 2009
We had such a wonderful, low-key Christmas this year. It was our first year to celebrate Christmas together. We headed up to my family's celebration on Christmas Eve to be with my parents, maternal grandparents, brother, sisters and brothers-in-law and niece and nephew. Christmas day, Big Spoon's parents flew in from Colorado and were here through Tuesday and they totally spoil us. I am always sad to see them leave and miss them like I've known them forever.
Oh, and Big Spoon gave me a Tiffany's charm! Isn't it cute?
Fall 2009
Oh, let's see ... we booked Down South Delights catering in November, celebrated our 1st year dating anniversary and chose Rose Mont Mansion for our wedding and reception in October.
Summer 2009
We (as in my parents) purchased my wedding dress in August, celebrated Big Spoon's birthday, had engagement pictures made in June and celebrated my birthday! Oh, and I bought a new car :)
Spring 2009
This quarter of 2009 was marked by travel - a weekend trip to Colorado and a romantic getaway to New York City. Big Spoon proposed in Central Park on April 13. It all felt like a dream and sometimes, it still does. I started our blog in 2009 as well.
Winter 2009
Shopping for engagement rings in January is definitely an experience I will never forget. Both surreal and exciting as this experience was, the most shocking part was falling in love with classic solitaires. I love my ring more every day. Big Spoon did a great job matching my personality to my engagement ring - classic brilliant round with a flat, small modern band. Even down to the surprise side diamonds, its perfect.
Although there were some shadows - work, relationships, the economy - overall, I couldn't have asked for a better year. I am so lucky to be in love with my best friend, to be surrounded by family and friends and continue my career in design into the new year.
Thanks for reading, folks. Happy New Year.
