Anniversary & Rock the Dress Shoot with Amber Rena Photography

Way back in the summer of 2011, my younger sister had some adorable family portraits made by Amber Rena Photography. I have to tell you, I really wish I had know about her when we were planning our wedding. Not only is Amber insanely talented, she's great to work with!

Take a look at this gorgeousness!

Big Spoon got really sick of listening to me whine for months about how much I hated our wedding photographer after how he made me feel and the shots that he "forgot" to take because the shot list was "in his head." We discussed that perhaps having a "Rock the Dress" shoot or some bridal portraits made would put the ghosts to rest. Ultimately, it did ... but I got over it loooong before the shoot with Amber Rena Photography, which was scheduled for November 12. Regardless, it was still a blast.

I decided to make the most of the photo shoot and trip to my grandparents' farm in Lafayette, TN by having some anniversary/couples shots done as well.

We had a blast! Here are five sneak peek shots from our photo shoot with Amber Rena Photography. I highly recommend Amber if you are looking for a fun, talented and affordable photographer for your wedding, engagement photos, Senior portraits or family photos.

300 Days

Hello everyone! Today marks 300 days until our wedding day. That seems like forever!

On Saturday, I got up at 7am and it felt awesome! Friday night, I had cleaned the house from top to bottom in preparation for Big Spoon's holiday party on Saturday. This left me time on Saturday morning to finish labeling the Save the Dates and dropped them off at the post office. Bye-bye pretties.

Also, Shutterfly.com was having a sale last weekend, so I went ahead and put together a photo book guestbook for our wedding. It came in the mail on Thursday (and I ordered last Sunday night. Woah.)  I'm pleased with the quality and with the fact that I paid less than $25 for it by using coupons. Woo hoo!

Bloggy Facelift

Instead of doing important chores on Friday, I decided to finally give our blog a facelift. I kept it clean and simplified the colors used as well as changed the code from a solid line to these dashed lines I'm so fond of. I designed a new header and profile badges (above) for Big Spoon and myself.

I also need to credit the banner picture: it is one of our many gorgeous engagement pictures by the talented Derek Lee. If you are still looking for a photographer, please check out his website! He is a lot of fun to work with.

Engagement pictures ... check!

Well, we did it. We survived an engagement portrait session! Yesterday was crazy for both of us, but for different reasons.

The most stressful thing to happen to me was that my normal hairstylist's flight was canceled and she lost her phone, so there was no way to reach me to let me know she would be unable to style my hair. I panicked, then scrambled, calling friends and friends of friends, until I found a salon that could work me in that afternoon.

It began raining around noon and promised to pour the rest of the day. The photographer called to gauge our commitment to the photo shoot considering the weather. I went on a gut instinct to not cancel, which in the end worked out for the best.

I gathered up my clothes and hair inspiration pictures, Big Spoon's tie, my red high heels and headed out to Harlow Salon in Nashville. These ladies were wonderful and my makeup lasted well through the night.

Big Spoon and I met up near his work, met the photographer and headed over the Public Plaza first. Second, we took a few brief shots at the Schermerhorn before getting kicked off the property (which bugs me because I am a patron of the symphony).

We then took random, urban shots in downtown Nashville along various interesting backdrops and wrapped up our session on the Shelby Street pedestrian bridge. It began lightly raining as our photographer took the last shot. I really enjoyed working with our photographer, Derek Lee and his assistant.

Another Great Engagement Shoot

I love looking at other people's engagement sessions. {This one} is particularly cute. One reason I keep browsing them is because I am trying to get an idea of what I would like to wear to our engagement session, which I booked last night for June 15 in Downtown Nashville.

Early Birds

Jan 10, 2012 - Would like to edit this post for anyone who is looking at hiring this photographer for your wedding. Our advice is DON'T DO IT.  If you'd like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We believe it is in bad taste to slam our photographer in detail on our blog - we don't want the legal liability that comes along with that. However, I will give you an honest, fair review of his services if you ask.

If there is one thing that Big Spoon and I have in common, it is our necessity to planning things out. I like spontaneity in life - in healthy doses - but over all, I'm an obsessive planner.

We've already booked a photographer! *Biggest wedding mistake we made. Take your time, couples!

Photography is on the top of my wedding priority list. I deem it an absolute necessity, but not one that should put us in debt. That said, I began researching Nashville photographers early.

There are hundreds of talented photographers in Nashville. I utilized Nashville City Search, Google searches and the Nashville Scene's readers polls. Once I had an idea of internet ratings of photographers, I browsed their sites to compare work and price. If they didn't have a price online, I hesitated to consider them. My "dream" photographer was way out of my price range. Everyone else seemed to be equally talented, so it really came down to price and package. *Don't believe all review websites. Vendors have the option of NOT publishing some website reviews, especially those that are negative and can sometimes petition to get negative reviews removed. Word of advice, ask any photographer you are considering for a password to galleries of the last three weddings they shot as well as a wedding that was particularly challenging. If you don't like what you see, don't sign the contract!

In the end, we only met with one photographer. Based on his website, work, prices, reviews and communication it was an easy decision to make after meeting Derek Lee, who owns {Affordable Wedding Photography of Nashville}. *Personality is VERY important. If you don't like your photographer, you won't enjoy your wedding day. To be fair, we did like him, but didn't interview anyone else and got sucked into "if you don't do it now, you'll lose the date scenario. Interview everyone that seems to be a good fit and go with your gut. Don't be pressured to make a decision. That's a big, fat red flag that they might be less than professional or trustworthy.

We are getting a great, affordable package that includes an album of prints, an engagement session, several hours of wedding photography and ALL of the digitals at no additional fee. We are really looking forward to working with Derek. *Oh, it was affordable, all right, but you get what you pay for, folks and I got a stressful, horrible wedding experience. My entire family was upset at this guy. Like I said, email for details.
